Since 1951 the members of the Pointe-Claire Rescue Unit have been providing the community and neighbouring towns with emergency services. The Rescue Unit was started by a bunch of ex-servicemen who wanted to continue serving their community in time of peace after World War II. In the early years the unit had a few army stretchers, some blankets, and a few feet of rope, and the ability and skills to put them to good use.
Should you require our services you can contact us through Public Security at 630-1234. For non emergencies please leave a message at (514) 630-1224.

In the early years the unit trained out of the Pointe-Claire Fire Dept until our present building at 2A Victoria became available when the pump house moved across the street. One of the first vehicles that the rescue unit acquired was an old Molson delivery truck which was used to carry the equipment. Some of the original members were sent to the Civil Defense College at Arnprior, Ontario to get more advanced training. In the late 50's Dominion Bridge Rescue folded, their members then joined Pointe-Claire Rescue. This merger enabled the unit to become members of the International Rescue and First Aid Association and through them we competed in the U.S.A., coming home with trophies as a result of our efforts.
Today the unit is made up of 20 men and women who are on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year. We all volunteer our time even though we all work full time jobs. Unlike some organizations, the members of our unit receive absolutely no monetary compensation. We are funded entirely by the Borough of Pointe - Claire.
The objective of the Unit is to make available to the Borough of Pointe - Claire a professionally trained team of volunteers who provide assistance during emergency and non emergency situations that arise in Pointe - Claire and surrounding areas. Over the years the Unit has provided assistance as far away as Ste-Therese, Deux-Montagnes, Oka, Morin Heights and Kanawake, as well as many areas of the West Island.
The Unit has in the past, handled a multitude of emergencies ranging from flooded basements, to fallen trees, also the Ice Storm of 98, and serches for missing persons. We also provide Red Cross at fire scenes. We don't fight fires we leave that up to the Fire Department. We are equiped to handle almost any emergency and we are capable of providing assistance in any situation of distress.
